Welcome to the Sustainable Energy@ Mines Undergraduate Distinction

This “build your own” program honors and supports our community of students from any major focused on learning about and shifting the landscape on sustainable energy.  This might include sustainable and affordable buildings / communities, renewable energy, energy storage, policy / business solutions, and energy equity. SE@M encourages, recruits, and trains the next generation energy professionals who will find innovative and holistic solutions to challenges such as climate change, clean energy transition, and energy equity.

The SE@M graduation distinction consists of a green regalia honor cord, a certificate, and a footnote in the graduation bulletin.

Graduate Requirements

To earn a SE@M distinction students must meet a minimum of number of points based on the merits impact and relevance from three categories: LEARN (e.g. courses) , PRACTICE (e.g. internships) and BUILD COMMUNITY (e.g. leadership in students’ organizations). 

SE@M intends to create and support a community of people focused on learning about and shifting the landscape of renewable and sustainable energy. In order to meet the needs and challenges of the energy transition, we need as many energy professionals as possible to be involved in sustainable energy – engineers, geologists, economists, computer scientists, policy makers and more. Through this program, we recognize what Mines students already do and we support, encourage, and make it easier for more students to find their path in sustainable energy.

Examples of SE@M related topics are: energy efficiency, energy conservation, sustainable buildings and communities, renewable energies, energy storage, energy policy, energy equity, and sustainable transportation.
